Minister Marty Natalegawa set the United Arab Emirat (UAE) would like to invest in Indonesian’s growing geothermal industry. Minister Her met with Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed AlNahyan and Marty Natalegawa said that Indonesia has huge potential to be the world’s largest geothermal energy consumer. The minister added UAE was also interested in investment in other sectors such as infrastructure, agriculture and tourism. Indonesia is now rank third in term of geothermal energy consumption coming in after United States and Philippines. The country geothermal resources also account for over 40% of global geothermal potential. The country only uses 4.2 % of geothermal resources to generate its needed electricity. In order to tap into geothermal energy, the government is using world bank loan to launch four projects between state electricity company PT PLN and PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy to develop geothermal power plant in Central Java, North Sumatera, and West Lampung.
